Aplexo: Crafting Emotional Space Between Melodic Depth and Festival Power

From early trance influences and analog synth experiments to his return on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records, Aplexo opens up about the journey behind his Space EP. In this interview, he reflects on discovering electronic music at a young age, shaping emotive melodies, and balancing dreamy atmospheres with peak-time energy. He also dives into his creative process, the role of vocals in his productions, and how his sound is evolving toward bigger stages – while still staying rooted in melodic techno.

HMWL – Let’s start at the beginning, how did you first get into music production, and what initially drew you toward the electronic music world?

APLEXO – I first got into music production at the age of 15 a friend of mine at my high school was making trance music with the daw reason and introduced me to music production. Tiesto was the Dj who got first inspired me to start making music at that time.

HMWL – Your new Space EP marks your return to Purified Records. What inspired this particular release, and how did the idea for the project first take shape?

APLEXO – This track was inspired by Artbat I alway been a big fan of their sound and wanted to make a track with big festival synths that would be a middle of the set banger and I think I was able to accomplish that.

HMWL – The title track, “Space,” blends pulsating basslines with ethereal vocals and shimmering synths. Can you walk us through the creative story behind that track?

APLEXO – I was in my studio messing around with some of my analog synths and started making a chord progression on my oberheim synth and that pretty much inspired the whole idea.

HMWL – “Eye,” the second track, explores a deeper and more hypnotic atmosphere. What emotions or concepts were you aiming to capture with this piece?

APLEXO – I initially had made Eye a much harder track but it was a little bit too hard for “Purified Records” sound so I had to recreate it in a much more emotional and deep track that was less clubby also it was a good bside to the epic “Space” track.

HMWL – You have a knack for pairing emotive vocals with innovative production. How do vocals typically fit into your workflow, do they inspire the track, or do they come later in the process? When you’re in the studio, what does your creative process look like? Do you follow a structured routine, or is it more intuitive and experimental?

APLEXO – I normally will create a sketch or bed and then send it off to one of my vocalists and they will right a top line then I will go back into the production once I receive the vocals and tweak and mix the record.

HMWL – Purified Records is known for its immersive, melodic, and forward-thinking sound. How does releasing on the label influence or shape your approach to production?

APLEXO – I’ve always been a huge fan of Nora En Pure and her Purified label’s sound so it was always a sound I was into and was a real honor to join the label and release music with them. Releasing on purified makes me aim to make something emotional and dreamy that will captivate the listener and take them on a musical journey.

HMWL – Your tracks often feel both expansive and intimate. What elements do you prioritize when trying to build that kind of atmosphere in your music?

APLEXO – I prioritize the chords and melody because I believe that’s the most important foundation to any track. I try to use the melody to create an emotional response for the listener.

HMWL – From your August release, Faces, to the new Space EP, how do you feel your sound has evolved or shifted over the past few months? Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Aplexo next? Are there upcoming projects, collaborations, or new sonic directions you’re excited to explore?

APLEXO – My sound is definitely starting to get a little harder with a focus on getting top dj support and making music for festivals. I started exploring some more calmer stuff in the more chill out style really trying to explore all styles of production while keeping my main focus on melodic techno. I plan to start touring heavily in 2026 and I have a bunch of new tracks in the works so 2026 should be a big year for my project.
