There’s something quietly powerful about a label that builds at its own pace, no hype-chasing, no shortcuts, just a clear vision and a tight-knit community. Over the past three years, Soul Quest Records has done exactly that. Now, as they mark their 20th release, the East London imprint stands as one of the most authentic voices in the UK’s contemporary house landscape.

Founded in Hackney in 2023 by Max Sinàl, Slxm Sol, Leon Sweeney and Piers, Soul Quest emerged from a shared love of deep, soulful house music rooted in feeling as much as function. From the outset, the label has leaned into warm textures, jazz-leaning musicality and an unmistakable London sensibility, less about peak-time bombast, more about groove, depth and intention
That ethos is reflected in the catalogue. Across 20 releases, Soul Quest has cultivated a sound that feels cohesive without ever becoming predictable. There’s a clear curatorial hand at play, but also space for artists to express themselves fully. It’s this balance, between identity and openness, that has helped the label grow organically while maintaining credibility among DJs and listeners alike.
Key early moments helped define that trajectory. SQR002 hinted at the label’s direction with its understated sophistication, while Intentions captured the emotive core of the imprint, soulful, reflective, and built for long-form listening as much as the dancefloor. Meanwhile, Slxm Sol’s Simple Love EP stands out as a cornerstone release, rich in texture, musically expressive and deeply rooted in the label’s DNA. It’s the kind of record that doesn’t just fit the Soul Quest sound, it helps define it.
Behind the scenes, the label’s strength lies in its founders. Max Sinàl brings decades of experience, from pirate radio roots in East London through to production credits with globally recognised acts. His journey feeds directly into the label’s identity, grounded, informed and driven by genuine passion rather than trend cycles. As A&R, his ear for detail and commitment to quality has been central to shaping the catalogue.
Alongside him, Slxm Sol represents the next wave, technically sharp, creatively ambitious and deeply connected to the evolving sound of soulful electronic music. His dual role as artist and co-founder gives Soul Quest a forward-facing energy, ensuring it remains in dialogue with the wider scene while staying true to its core principles.
Together with Leon Sweeney and Piers, the team have built more than just a label, they’ve created a platform. Soul Quest is as much about community as it is about releases, offering space for both emerging and established artists to contribute to a shared vision. That inclusive approach has helped foster a roster that feels interconnected rather than transactional.
Twenty releases in, Soul Quest Records isn’t chasing validation, it’s earning it. With a clear sonic identity, a growing catalogue of standout records and a foundation built on collaboration and trust, the label feels like it’s only just getting started. If the first chapter was about establishing the sound, the next looks set to expand it, without ever losing sight of what made it resonate in the first place.
