roscius is at his smooth, instrumental best on lush, feel-good project “NO FALA B”

French artist roscius unveils his latest work, “No Fala B,” an instrumental journey that defies genres and the boundaries of typical electronic music. Released on Nomadic Recordings, this 13-track album is a percussive exploration centered around the balafon, a West African instrument. The album title itself, when reversed, hints at this central element, adding a layer of intrigue to the project. Speaking on the album and the importance of the instrument, Roscius explains that

“If you mirror the name “NO FALA B“, it’s “BALAFON”, a chromatique keys percussion, handmade in Burkina Faso, which is the main instrument of all productions on this record. “NO FALA B” is a statement, somehow political, meaning “don’t speak B”, in half portuguese-brazilian – half english. It’s the almost-chronological story of how I discovered this instrument, its sounds, textures and harmonies, and fell in love with it, despite not knowing how to play it the traditional way. Unless B doesn’t stand for balafon, but rather for someone’s name, someone that I’d fallen in love with, and whom I don’t speak its language.. “

“No Falla B” is a love letter, documenting roscius’s discovery of its unique sounds and textures. The music straddles genres, blending acoustic percussion with electronica, organic house, jazz, and ambient soundscapes. This fusion creates a listening experience that is both cerebral and physical, with a funky undertone that keeps the listener engaged.

The album has meditative qualities and its blend of organic experimentation. Roscius’s distinct approach to production and composition shines through, influenced by a diverse range of global sounds and rhythms.
