Intr0beatz aka Reykjavik Iceland native Arsaell Thor Ingvason is a beatmaker and producer with a lifelong love for the groove. From his earliest years delving into his father’s musical collecting and compositions, he first came to prominence as Intr0beatz back in the late ‘90s first as a turntablist, then as beat producer behind various Icelandic Hip Hop groups but also producing few tracks for international rap artists.
A carpenter by trade, his hands have shaped a formidable body of work from quality productions to his skilful turntablism and use of records, to working with old school and vintage samplers. Ingvason released Half Time in 2011 on Möller Records. A heady mix of chill out, deep house, funk, and hip hop, it marked an evolution in his music trajectory while building on his roots. Since Half Time, Ingvason has been delving ever deeper into house music, releasing a slew of 12” and EPs on various deep house labels such as Dark Energy, Plastik People, SlothBoogie, Lagaffe Tales, south african label Stay True Sounds, Aterral and on his own label, Cosmic Angles.
Intr0beatz is now a staple in Iceland’s recent house music revival as well as playing and DJing in Canada, Europe, South Africa and Japan. After a recent paternity leave, he is now based in Berlin and is finally back in the studio with releases lined up on Aterral, Cosmic Angles & SlothBoogie.
In the third episode of Current Groove, Intr0beatz has curated a mix that spans multiple eras, blending his latest releases on Cosmic Angles with upcoming tracks on Aterral, plus some exclusive unreleased material. The set includes tunes from artists like Joss Moog, Atjazz, Playin’ For The City, and others who have inspired him over the years.
