Interview – Diego Narváez

Fresh off the back of his latest single ‘Respiro’, which saw him collaborate with Dani Puente, we caught up with Ecuadorian producer Diego Narváez to get a deeper look at what went in to creating this infectious single.

HMWL – “Respiro” feels deeply personal and meditative. What was the emotional or conceptual starting point for this track?

Diego – The starting point was the need to pause. Life often feels like it moves too fast, especially when you’re creating constantly. “Respiro” came from a place of needing to breathe, to reconnect with stillness, reencounter with one self and to give space to vulnerability. It’s about letting silence speak.

HMWL – You’ve described Airesolosería as a platform for honest, spiritual, and boundary-breaking music. What inspired you to create your own label, and how has it evolved since its inception?

Diego – Airesolosería was born from the urge to create without filters. I wanted a home for music that doesn’t follow trends but instead follows truth. Over time, it has become a space where artists can feel safe expressing something deeper — not just sound, but spirit. It’s evolving into a collective of people who feel, not just perform.

HMWL – What are the main benefits, and challenges, of releasing music through your own label?

Diego – The biggest benefit is creative freedom. No compromises, no pressure to fit a mold. But that also comes with the challenge of doing everything independently — from strategy to promotion. You become not only the artist but the architect of every detail.

HMWL – How did Dani Puente come to be part of Airesolosería, and what drew you to her?

Diego – Dani was one of my students. She shared a musical idea during class, something she made from a very raw and honest place. It moved me. I saw potential, not just in the sound, but in the intention behind it. And I felt she deserved to be heard — that’s what Airesolosería is for.

HMWL – The two of you created something that feels both intimate and expansive. What was the creative process like working with Dani on “Respiro”?

Diego – We approached it like a conversation. She brought her original idea and I helped shape the emotional world around it — guiding, producing, and elevating it without taking away her essence. It was more about mentoring and bonding than collaborating in the traditional sense.

HMWL – The track is sung in Portuguese. What role does language play in the emotion or message of your music?

Diego – Language shapes emotion in subtle ways. Portuguese felt right for this track — it adds warmth and softness. I often see language as texture more than meaning; what matters most is how it feels when you hear it. In this case, it also carries a sense of Latin identity — both through the language itself and the percussive rhythms that echo our cultural roots.

HMWL – You use analog textures and subtle electronic rhythms throughout the track. Can you talk a bit about your production approach on this release?

Diego – I wanted the production to be understated but full of feeling. I used analog synths and tape to give it a timeless texture. The rhythm is almost invisible, like a pulse. It’s not about overwhelming the listener — it’s about inviting them into a space.

HMWL – How do you see the Ecuadorian electronic and alternative scene evolving, and where do you feel Airesolosería fits within that landscape?

Diego – There’s real talent in Ecuador, but not enough platforms. Airesolosería aims to be one of those rare doors that opens outward — not just to showcase music from here, but to show that music from here belongs to the world. We don’t follow scenes, we build spaces.

HMWL – Collaboration and community seem central to your work. How do you nurture that energy within your label and projects?

Diego – It’s all about intention. Whether it’s a student, a collaborator, or a guest on Wo Sessions, I look for people who are sincere. I try to create environments where people can grow and be heard — not judged. That’s how real community forms.

HMWL – What can we expect from you and Airesolosería in the second half of 2025 — more releases, live performances, or new collaborations?

Diego – All of that and more. We’re planning new releases, including work from emerging artists, more Wo Sessions that spotlight music made in Ecuador, and new formats that blend sound with visual storytelling. The mission is clear: to create from here, for everywhere.
