Electronic music producer and composer Errance released his third single, ‘Oxytocin’ on May 2nd via Société Holographique de Montréal. The track follows the release of his first two singles, ‘Guidance’ and ‘Idyll’, and precedes the release of his self-titled debut album which is set for release on the 17th of May.
Errance is the solo musical project of Gabriel Gagnon, who is beginning to carve out a place for his own musical expression in the wake of a process of deep introspection, self-growth and a profound connection to nature. Errance shared about his latest offering; “Having relocated part of [my] life near Mont-Orford National Park, I discovered inspiration in nature during moments of tranquility and contemplation. It was within the rhythm of routine and the commitment to consistency that I cultivated the discipline necessary to bring these creations to life.”
Errance’s sound takes inspiration from artists such as Floating Points, Mount Kimbie, Max Cooper and Jon Hopkins. To coincide with the release of his new single, we had a little chat with Gabriel to find out more about the song and what else is lined up for this exciting project…
What first inspired you to want to become a musician?
It all started messing around with my father’s Yamaha Psr 32 when I was 6/7 years old. I was always fascinated by rhythms and textures, later in life I became a studio assistant and could really dive into that passion.
How would you describe your creative process when you create new music?
It all starts with a feeling, some space , a state of mind I want to share. I collect a lot of sounds of my surroundings, in the forest or in the mountains near rivers and I bring those sounds and enhance them in the studio later in the process. After that I had chords with analog synths or Wurlitzer piano, drum machines, moog bass etc.
What message do you wish to convey with your latest single Oxytocin?
‘Oxytocin’ is an energising and hypnotic piece of IDM that warms the listener from the inside out. The track glints and paints a sonic picture of a faraway magical paradise, with a hint of nostalgia and wistfulness in its beauty.
What has been your favourite performance in your career?
When I toured around Asia 10 years ago as a keyboard player, it literally changed my life and opened my mind to this part of the world
Who’s your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?
Alex Dodier, Multi wind instrumentalist, he brings textures and organic feel to my songs
What can listeners expect to experience with your upcoming self-produced album, Errance?
This project combines sounds and textures collected in mountain and forest settings across seasons. It blends my pop and electro background with a newfound maturity, offering reflective and complex organic textures. Exploring contemplation, inspiration, introspection, and resilience, it sets these against a rhythmic backdrop that propels forward momentum. It aims for a dreamy, cinematic sound, capturing the essence of the present moment.
