Obscenity State blurs the lines of electronica, techno and IDM on “Zoroaster”

Zoroaster, an electronic masterpiece crafted by Nilly Brook, known artistically as Obscenity State, will take you on a journey like no other. The album seamlessly blends elements of techno, deep house and atmospheric soundscapes, creating an otherworldly experience that will take you to different dimension.

Brook has shared how her music has been shaped by her family’s experiences during the Iranian Revolution, and the contrasts to her upbringing in London- a duality that is reflected in her background as a classically trained musician who now produces electronic music.

The nine track album sonically communicates this tension and release, featuring heavy driving rhythms, ethereal vocal snippets, and experimental sound design. Obscenity State strives to evoke emotion in her work, and she achieves this without doubt.

For me, the stand out track goes to the song titled the same as the name of the album- Zoroaster, due to it’s intense pulsating beat and airy vocals- a conflicting mix which I find captivating. From ambient, introspective tracks such as Sinusoid, to high energy, rhythmically aggressive pieces such as Quake, Brook paints a sonically colourful picture, that demands attention and immerses you into her diverse world of sound.
