Fresh from the release of their ‘Desire’ EP, we caught up with the Italian duo for an immersive chat about their work, the industry and more:
Thanks for joining us at HMWL. Where are you writing to us from, and what have you both been up to over the last few weeks?
We’re currently writing to you from Caserta, Italy, and over the last few weeks, we’ve been immersed in our music, exploring new sounds, and refining our style. Additionally, we’ve dedicated time to promoting our latest release and taking care of our mental well-being.
Tell us about your journey into music and what led you to this point.
Our musical journey began 15 years ago when we crossed paths while studying together. The bond formed during those years eventually led us to discover a shared passion for music. This common interest prompted us to open our label, Moan, and embark on the collaborative project, Artslaves. The decision to create our music and curate our distinctive sound has been a pivotal part of our journey.
How do you both effectively promote yourselves as artists?
Promotion is crucial, and we strive to maximise online platforms such as social media and streaming services to share our music. Collaborating with music bloggers, participating in contests, and consistently seeking new ways to reach a broader audience are all part of our strategy.
Tell us about your latest release.
Our latest release, Desire EP, was on Bamboleo, the label of Neverdogs, and it features a fantastic remix by Hector Couto. The collaboration with Bamboleo and the remix by Hector Couto added unique elements to the project, and we’re excited to share this version with our fans.
What has the feedback been like from your latest release?
We’ve been fortunate to receive very positive feedback, garnering support from many international DJs. Moreover, our tracks have been on the minimal charts for a week now, and this achievement fills us with pride.
How do you both take care of your mental health?
Mental health is a priority for both of us. We strive to balance our time between music and relaxation, engaging in activities that bring us peace. Additionally, we openly communicate with each other and with friends and family when support is needed.
Talk us through your creative process.
Our creative process unfolds in our studio, where, for the past 12 years, we’ve met every day to produce new music. It’s also the space where we curate the music for Moan and organise all aspects of Moan and Artslaves, allowing us to create new projects and stay in tune with the rhythm of both endeavours. This daily routine fosters an environment where we can consistently generate fresh ideas and navigate the dynamic landscape of Moan and Artslaves.
What advice do you have for other artists?
Our main advice is to stay authentic and consistent on your artistic journey. Experiment, learn from both successes and setbacks and always keep the passion alive.
Consistency in promotion and commitment is key.
What is your biggest goal this year, and how close are you to achieving it?
Our major success this year has been establishing continuity in our releases and securing partnerships with some prestigious labels we’ve been admirers of for a long time (details will be revealed soon). Additionally, we’ve successfully confirmed new tour dates across Europe, reflecting our commitment to expanding our reach and connecting with fans on a broader scale.
We’re excited about the progress we’ve made and are looking forward to sharing more details about our upcoming ventures soon.
Lastly, what can we expect from you in the future?
In the future, we envision continuing to express ourselves through our music in every corner of the world, embracing new cultures, and growing even more with Moan and Artslaves.
Importantly, we aim to maintain the same spirit and love that has fuelled our journey so far because doing what you love is truly a gift. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and the experiences that music will bring into our lives.
