Dylan C. Greene emerged in the electronic scene during 2021, gaining recognition through remix competitions and collaborations within online music communities. His remix for Disclosure’s ‘Never Enough’ led to releases on Kitsuné Musique and True Romance, and remixes for artists like Lion Babe.
Following a standout remix for Disclosure and tracks on Kitsuné Musique and True Romance, Greene’s C3DO debut ‘Fool Me’, blends jazz, soul, and depth, coined ‘Gran Turismo House’ by Dylan. Anticipate sharp synths and sliced vocals atop dynamic drums.
Launching with a single from co-founders We Are Neurotic earlier this year, C3DO Recordings is a playful house, disco and electronic label founded by Dylan C. Greene, 3kelves, and We Are Neurotic, dedicated to nurturing its family of artists and providing a steady stream of quality, idiosyncratic releases.
With Fool Me out now, we caught up with Dylan for a chat about the single and plans for the label this year.
Your journey in the electronic scene began in 2021 and quickly gained momentum. What was the turning point that catapulted your career, especially your work that led to recognition by major labels?
Without a doubt the biggest turning point is when my official remix for Disclosure came out at the end of 2021. That was a boost that not many artists get at the beginning of their career and I’m very grateful to have started my career of with my name connected to such a big artist.
Your single ‘Fool Me’ is described as blending jazz, soul, and depth with sharp synths and dynamic drums. How do you approach fusing these diverse elements to create a cohesive track?
It’s mostly trying to find sounds that work well together, but aren’t all pulled from the same sonic universe. I love finding short stabs of sound that I can manipulate into different rhythmic layers and I feel that ‘Fool Me’ is definitely my best attempt at doing that so far.
“Gran Turismo House” is an interesting new term you’ve coined for your latest single ‘Fool Me’. Can you delve into the inspiration behind this genre and what it means to you?
I’ve always loved old racing games and played them a lot as a kid, specifically Gran Turismo. I vividly remember the music in that game and mix of Japanese jazz-fusion and vibey electronic music on the soundtrack. Not a lot of house music though, so I was inspired to make something in a similar lane, but driven more by a house groove.
C3DO Recordings stands out for its commitment to a family of artists and idiosyncratic releases. What’s your vision for the label, and how do you plan to nurture this unique artist community?
We just want to put out house and disco music that’s different from the norm, and not afraid to stray away from your typical dance music formulas. We’re only putting out our (We Are Neurotic, 3kelves and myself) own stuff at the moment, but hopefully when the vibe and vision of the label catches on we can start putting out likeminded artists.
You’ve been known for engaging audiences effectively on TikTok. How has this platform influenced your music production and your relationship with your listeners?
Not a whole lot honestly. In my experience, it’s very difficult to create a stable relationship with an audience as an artist on TikTok. I use it mostly to get my music to new ears, which definitely is hit-or-miss depending on the content I create.
Following the release of ‘Fool Me’, what can your fans expect from C3DO Recordings and your own work in the near future? Any collaborations or new ventures we should be excited about?
We will be releasing a single on C3DO every single month, so be sure to keep an eye out for those. Other than that I’m currently on tour in NYC and will also have dates in Europe this summer.
