Exclusive Interview: Mitch Oliver

Hey Mitch, thanks for joining us today! You’ve just completed your South America your, can you share some highlights with us?

Absolutely thrilled to be here! That tour was an absolute whirlwind of euphoria. The energy from the South American crowd is just unmatched—so passionate, so vibrant. Every gig felt like a celebration, but if I had to pick, the anniversary bash in Jujuy for Nirvana Productions was a standout. Imagine, over 1,200 souls vibing to a 3-hour set that was all shades of dirty and sexy. And then, there was this surreal night in a Tucuman jungle for La Boite Club, playing to more than 4,000 people. The production was out of this world, and the crowd’s engagement was just through the roof.

Which venues stood out to you the most?

Every spot had its own flair, but Las Cavernas in Mendoza and Crobar Studio in Buenos Aires were in a league of their own. Las Cavernas, with its vineyard setting, dazzling lights, and top-notch sound, was an outdoor fantasy. Meanwhile, Crobar Studio brought the heat as the sexiest club vibe I’ve experienced in a while.

What were some memorable moments or interactions you had with fans during your performances?

This was a first for me—being asked for photos while jamming to the opening DJs among the crowd was incredibly touching. And then, at Crobar Studio, a fan showed me he was playing one of my sets on YouTube right there on his phone. It’s heartwarming to see such passionate and knowledgeable fans. Their love for music truly transcends boundaries. (link to that REEL I mentioned: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5BaUPBsaDI/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRl ODBiNWFlZA== )

Did you encounter any unexpected challenges or surprises while on tour?

Oh, for sure! The most jaw-dropping moment was when the power cut out at Crobar Studio, right at the start of my headlining set. Everything went dark, and there I was, powerless in the booth for what felt like an eternity. But, only in Argentina would you find an audience that patiently waits out a 15-minute blackout. When we got back on, I kicked off with an unreleased track, and the energy exploded. Truly unforgettable.

How do you adapt your set or performance style to cater to different crowds and venues?

It’s all about vibing with the room and the crowd’s energy. I start with a rough plan but remain flexible to shift the vibe based on the crowd, sound quality, set time, and overall atmosphere. I’m fortunate to have a diverse arsenal of my own tracks to fit any scene, which really helps me tailor my performance on the fly.

Were there any particular tracks that seemed to resonate especially well with the Latin American audiences?

The beauty of Latin America is their open-hearted embrace of diverse sounds. They’re all about high energy. My latest release, “Control Z,” and my unreleased remix of Ultra Nate’s “Free” absolutely tore up every venue. And “Tell Me What You Want” continues to be a crowd-pleaser, even before its official release. The connection is just magical.

What aspects of the South American house music scene do you find most inspiring or unique compared to other regions?

Their genuine love for the music and eagerness to connect with the artists. Before I even hit the stage, the audience dives deep into my discography, getting to know the artist behind the beats. Their passion for dancing is relentless—truly embodying the warmth and spirit of their culture in how they live for electronic music.

What did you get up to during your down time?

Tourist by day, music maker by night, I dived into collaborations and soaked up Argentina’s culture through its people, places, and, oh, the cuisine—Asados, empanadas, lomitos, you name it. It was a feast for the senses!

How do you balance the demands of touring with the creative process of producing new music?

Indeed, it’s a juggling act. Diving deep into the creative process is key for me, but the incredible energy from touring feeds my creativity like nothing else. I’m now buzzing with inspiration, ready to craft more dance floor anthems that channel this amazing journey.

On another note, you recently had your debut performance at Igloofest, which you filmed and is now live on YouTube. How did it feel to share the stage with Miss Monique and Hidden Empire at Igloofest? Can you describe the atmosphere during the event for those who haven’t seen your set?

Absolutely mind-blowing! Hitting the main stage at Canada’s iconic Igloofest, feeling the heat from over 10K people dancing in the cold—it felt like a midsummer’s rave. Montreal’s spirit is simply unmatched. That night was legendary, and I’m thrilled we captured it on video for everyone to relive.

How did the cold environment influence your performance, and what strategies did you employ to engage with the crowd despite the chilly conditions?

Being Canadian, cold is in my blood, but let’s be real—the cold only fuels the fire on the dance floor. My strategy? Unleash an arsenal of bangers that kept everyone moving, and sweating, despite the frost. It was an electric, sweat-breaking experience.
