Electroblaze has been bathing in the rhythm of musical notes since birth, with his musical family influencing him heavily. At a young age, he fell in love with the raw power of hip-hop, and he started rocking popular rap albums and freestyle sessions under the alias “Mr. Blazer”
During his travels, Electroblaze discovered mixing…cocktails. This nomadic lifestyle allowed him to experience new cultures and new music. He soon discovered electronic music, finding inspiration in Deia on the island of Mallorca and then in Hamburg. Electroblaze became hooked on music production, spending his time locked into Ableton. Wanting to immerse himself in dance music culture, he naturally headed to Berlin, Germany. Electroblaze took a three-year deep dive into the techno and house scene. He spun not just records but cocktails too, in top clubs Club Der Visionäre and Griessmühle.
The next phase of Electroblaze took him to the Swiss Alps, seeking tranquility for the creative process. This is where Electroblaze’s artistry and personality grew wings and began to flourish. Recently returning to his Wiesbaden roots, Electroblaze built a new home for his music Nesh Recordings alongside collaborating with artists he has met on his journey and just founded a new exciting Brand called NXT LGNDS.
Off the back of his recent release ‘High of Me / Drinking a Coffee and Then?’ we talk to the seasoned artist about his new EP, creative process, floor fillers plus more…
Hey Michael, Great to meet you! What’s happening in your world at the minute?
I’ve been in Vienna for two days now and just prepared two promo reels for my double release and I’m actually waiting to check out a fantastic new pop-up location in Vienna that we hopefully can play and host for a year soon.
Can you enlighten us on the meaning of your ‘Electroblaze’ artist name?
I’m from Germany and my real name is ‘M. Bleser’, as a child you can make a lot of jokes with the surname in German but then I became a cool rapper called Mr.Blazer from the age of 11 until I was 23. Years later when I started with electronic music, Electroblaze was the obvious choice. I’m a child of the 80s, an original B-boy, electrofan and Blaze.
Congratulations on releasing ‘High of Me / Drinking a Coffee and Then?’. Talk us through the release, what is the Inspiration behind it?
‘High of Me’ is one of those old projects that you find again by chance and bring back to life with a new maturity and current vibe. I generally worked on both at the same time and almost exclusively in Ibiza. I was just looking for a more calm & housey sound than my last releases and the trend towards fast and hard. And Ibiza has a more relaxed effect on me than the Frankfurt area and I just wanted to create more ‘beautiful’ music. The vocals on ‘Drinking A Coffee…’ are by the wonderful ‘Holly Roxanne’ and were recorded in Ibiza at the legendary Metrica Studio.
Can you describe the connection between your music and your German roots, and how they continue to influence your music today?
Funny question, I thought my German roots didn’t come through in my productions. Oh but yeah, my parents brought me to “kinderchoir” and choir afterward before I started Rappin and we sang a lot of German stuff and I had a Gig with “Rof Zuchowski” for 10 years, wow, I nearly forgot. I’ve never thought about it before, but now it makes me want to use more German vocals again or make a few German all-time classic edits. Thx for the tip!
Can you share some insight into your creative process when producing music? Do you have any particular rituals or methods that help you stay inspired?
No, not really. I feel most comfortable when I’m well prepared. Drinks, snacks, the right light, mobile phone in flight mode, setup is good, and so on. My creative process or the start of a new project can be totally different. In everyday life and when traveling I do a lot of recordings with Tascam or my mobile phone and listening through them is always a good start and often very funny. In Ableton, I have a good start setup so that I can get started straight away and get into the creative process without having to do a lot of setting up and loading. In the project itself, I work crossover and rarely stick to predefined patterns. Going with the flow is my motto.
As someone deeply rooted in the House scene, what state is it in right now? What notable artists are emerging?
In general, I see the development and current house scene as a positive counterpool to the many hard, fast or less creative genres. It’s always the case that we long for groove and warmth and the ‘jack’ when everything around us is fast and rather chaotic and monotonous. I know from reliable sources that Cinthie and Funk D’Void, for example, are spending more time in the studio atm and that house is currently experiencing a renaissance. It’s great to see that 3-5 generations can now dance to the same music and party together.
When you are not busy with music, what might we find you doing?
I’m definitely a workaholic and can’t sit still for too long and always have projects on the go, but I also appreciate nature and peace for relaxation and balance and often need time to myself to keep my balance. I am also passionate about cooking and enjoy spending hours in my kitchen. I am an absolute pleasure person and love good food and great wines.
What do you have coming up in the next few months? Feel free to mention anything!
Oh, that’s a long list. I’m playing my next gig on 09 October in Nuremberg. Then I’m off to ADE and at the beginning of November to Malta to Robert Babicz with Marc Romboy to work in Robert’s studio and learn from both. (Learning never stops)
In the middle of November we are organizing 2 shows in Puerto Rico with our new brand ‘NXT LGNDS’, which will also be my North American debut and visiting NYC afterwards. January & February we have a small Austrian tour coming up in the Arlberg and Insbruck ski resorts and I’m working on a pop up venue takeover in Vienna.
I also have at least 3 more releases on international Labels and afew bootlegs, collabs and remixes coming this year.
All in all, it’s an extremely exciting phase right now and there’s still a lot on the agenda for 2025.
Finally, tell us about three of your best dancefloor fillers…
Afew lesser-known but well-working tracks that I like to play from time to time, especially with older and mixed audiences:
Chris Lorenzo feat High Jinx) – California Dreaming
Martin Ikin, The MelodY Men – Feel he Same
Armand Van Helden, ect. – Funk Phenomena PAWSA Ext. Remix)
Hush Hush – Daninn (need 2 Get Down) & my unreleased ‘The Humpty Dance’ Edit, of cause 🙂
