Exclusive Interview: Sparrow & Barbossa

Hi Sparrow & Barbossa and welcome to House Music With Love. How are you today?

Hi there, we’re doing incredible. Just came back from a Réciprocité show in Santiago, Chile. Pretty jetlagged actually!

For those that don’t know your story, please can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to be musicians / artists.

The first day we met something very funny happened! We went out for some beers and then we went to my place and listened to 28 hours of music! So we said, lets do our music.” We mixed our vibes. Barbossa is Latin, and I (Sparrow) have Moroccan roots from my mother. Before doing this we were both musicians. Barbossa is a percussionist. He recorded a famous song with Joeski & Chus called El amor”. Im the son of Francis Coletta, jazz guitarist who played with Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Whitney Houston amongst others and I’ve been playing piano since my very young age.

How did you both meet? Did you each have solo careers before releasing music together?

Luciano the Chilean DJ is actually who brought us together. We both had the opportunity to work together with him and he had the fantastic idea to bring us together. Barbossa had already been 15+ Space Ibiza resident DJ, and I was also already playing under my real name for about 10 years already.

Who have been your biggest supporters in your career so far?

Hector Romero (Orianna AR), DJ Chus, Keinemusik, MoBlack, Sony Music Latin (Orianna records specifically) who are releasing this new album and giving it some incredible support.

What inspires you the most when making music? And how do you stay inspired?

I believe we would both agree that most of our inspiration comes from our tours. Traveling all around the word is something we’re truly thankful about as it really inspires us for our music productions all year long.

What would you say has been your biggest career highlight to date?

I would say that having the opportunity to release our second album with Orianna (Sony Music Latin) with a full scale major label campaign including label showcases and official music videos is a real highlight in our careers and will definitely pave the way for amazing future developments.

What is the coolest venue you have ever played and why was it so special?

Mandala in Santiago de Chile to date has been our favourite gig. The energy and the peoples’ reception to our music was just out of this world. This feeling when the public knows and sings every single track of yours is really something out of this world.

What can you tell us about your new single ‘Bien Buena?

Our new single Bien Buena is part of our new album called Réciprocité. It is a Latin house collaboration with Eribertho Cruz, and a direct one way trip to cuba. It mixes cuban cha-cha vibes with powerful synths to create an ideal Latin house music dance floor banger.

If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you have join you on the lineup?

That would definitely be in Los Roques Venezuela, where we’d bring the whole roster of our label Tortuga Tribes for an epic and unforgettable Tortuga festival.

Beyond the new single release, what is coming up next in the world of Sparrow & Barbossa?

Touring, lots of it. Until summer comes we’ll be touring essentially in Latin America with the Réciprocité tour, and then summer time we’ll be more focused on Europe : Ibiza, Mykonos, Marbella and so on.

On the music side, the next single to be released of our album is “Vagabundo” a collaboration with the Gypsy Kings.

Where is the best place to stay up to date with you?

Instagram is definitely the social network where we’re most active.

Thanks for chatting to us today guys! Hope to see you soon.
