Blessed with a keen ear for music and a sharp sense of sound, Idan Perez was born and raised in the bustling, cultural hub of Tel Aviv. With a hunger and passion for the pulse of the local electronic music scene, it wasn’t long before a young and impassioned Perez started DJing and adopted the stage name PEREZO.
With drive and talent comes recognition, and armed with both traits PEREZO quickly rose to popularity both locally and internationally; performing at well established large scale parties including Rumours, Marco Carola, Hashmaliko and Flying Circus.
In 2020, Perez founded ‘One Of Us’, a community of like-minded artists that have gone on to organise high quality music festivals in Israel. Since then, the brand has grown to produce successful events in international party locations including Costa Rica and Mykonos.
With a diverse sonic palette ranging from Indie, Electronic, Disco and everything in between, PEREZO always commands control of the dance floor, as he continues on his mission to conquer the hearts and minds of ravers all around the world. We caught up with the man himself to find out more.
Hi Perezo and welcome to House Music With Love. How are you today?
For those that don’t know your story, please can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to be a musician.
I first started to be a DJ and then I became a musician. The fact that I began as a DJ meant I started to understand music more deeply and then I started to learn piano and the whole world of synthesisers and harmony in music. I learn something new every day
Who have been your biggest supporters in your career so far?
My biggest support right now is that many artists in the world are playing my music that hasn’t been released yet. Artists such as Solomon, Damian Lazarus and many more.
What inspires you the most when making music? And how do you stay inspired?
I get my inspiration when I travel in nature or places like the sea. I really love the beach in Tel Aviv. I start to think of all kinds of ideas and always try to bring the next edge.
What would you say has been your biggest career highlight to date?
One of my stand-out gigs was when I was invited to play at “Gospel” in New York. Also when I get an invite to play in Morocco at a big festival it’s always amazing! My parents were born in Morocco so for me it’s always a great excitement to be there!
What is the coolest venue you have ever played and why was it so special?
One of the big moments that was very special for me was that I played with Guy Gerber in Costa Rica in Santa Teresa last April. It was outstanding.
If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you have join you on the lineup?
If I could, I would like Cercle to do a show with me in a holy place in the Land of Israel. It would be very exciting for me.
Do you have any releases coming up that you can share with us?
Yes I have a release in December on Wyldcard Records and in April after that I have a release on Blue Shadow. Regardless I can tell you that 2024 is going to be a year with a lot of new music.
Beyond the new release, what else is coming up next in the world of Perezo?
I have shows in Zanzibar this November, December in Costa Rica, Tulum, Miami, and New York. And then I’ll get to Paris!
Thanks for chatting to us today Perezo!
