Exclusive Interview: Joachim Pastor

Hey Joachim, welcome to House Music With Love! Where are we speaking to you from today?

I’m actually in my studio, in France where I live.

How has the first part of 2023 been for you?

It has been good, a lot of touring, as usual. I have also made many tracks, and tried new creative processes, which has been interesting.

Congratulations on your new single ‘Forsaken Memories’! Can you tell us about this record and how it came about?

I was going to do a series of tracks with a bit more techno feel, especially in the way I was doing the beat, but I came up with this simple chord progression, and it just worked well. I composed the whole track in a few hours, then I just had to finish the arranging and mix/master.

The new single marks a new direction in your artistic journey. Can you talk to us a little about this?

I would like to have a more techno, harder beat, but still with the original « Pastor » melodic sound basically. It works really well live at my shows.

What is your approach when it comes to making new music? Do you have any studio rituals to help get you in the zone?

Not really, I just go to the studio and try to do something good; it’s true that I have to be in a good mood, and at least an « ok » state of mind, otherwise it’s almost impossible to create something, if I’m preoccupied with something else.

Who are some of the artists you would love to collaborate with?

Beside my close circle of artists/friends which I always want to do things with, I’d say « Francis Mercier », I really like his style. Also, Helsloot, a really great artist from NL. It’s a very hard question, there is just infinite answer.

Do you like to experiment with music that is far away from your usual sound?

Yes I do, all the time, from metal to drum n bass. Actually I’ve released an OST for a documentary that had a quite different style as my usual known productions, even though you can still feel my touch, I think.

What were some of the highlights of 2022 for you as an artist?

ADE 2022 was it, one of the best time : the crowd, friends, party, timing, it was all perfect.

In your down time, when you’re not touring or making music, how do you like to spend your time?

I love to do things with cars, renovate old cars, race on the track with track cars, or go rallyings with my friends.

How do you make sure to find a good work life balance?

Hum, I’m not really in control of that, basically I just try to keep up, we’ll see the balance later 🙂

Do you have any upcoming projects you are able to speak about?

Many new singles, remixes coming in the next month

Thanks for speaking to us today!
