In this interview, Danny shares insights into the inspiration behind the track, his creative process with Ruben Arthur, and how his experience in producing soundtracks for advertising companies influenced his approach to this project. Join us as we delve into the world of Danny Eviza and discover the magic behind “Lost.”
HMWL: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your forthcoming single, “Lost,” and how the collaboration with Ruben Arthur came about?
Danny Eviza: Before starting, I would like to say “thank you” to “House Music with Love” for this opportunity. “Lost” is the challenge that opens the race for me. It comes from my desire to explore house music, a genre I haven’t delved into before. As for Ruben, he’s an artist who has collaborated with big names like Timmy Trumpet. We connected online, and I sent him my demo. He immediately got to work, and I appreciate his deep and unique voice.
HMWL: “Lost” is described as an unconventional, dark, and sentimental house song. Tell us about how you personally feel about it. Does it capture any particular feeling or personal experience of yours?
Danny Eviza: “Lost” has a minimal, almost acid and deep sound, which reflects my own personality. I appreciate simplicity with a twist. It represents my moment of exploration and taking risks, where I sometimes lose myself “in the arms of music.” We all go through periods where we may feel lost, but it’s important to find ourselves again and cherish the experiences gained.
HMWL: How would you describe the creative process between you and Ruben Arthur while working on “Lost”? Did you face any challenges or surprises along the way?
Danny Eviza: As I mentioned earlier, we connected online. After listening to some of Ruben’s previous works, I reached out to him with an instrumental demo. I sent him a few versions, striving for perfectionism, though sometimes the earlier takes are more original. After a couple of weeks, he sent me his vocals, and they were fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with him, and I hope we can work together again in the future.
HMWL: Deep House is known for its immersive and hypnotic qualities, but it is also a very broad genre spanning back to the 1980s. How do you feel “Lost” captures the essence of the modern Deep House genre?
Danny Eviza: I have a love of the ’80s, and I’m delighted to see many sounds making a comeback. “Lost” draws inspiration from that era while incorporating a modern Deep House style. The initial atmosphere, the drop, and the synthesized lead in the chorus follow the modern Deep House school, perhaps with elements of Future House and Bass House.
HMWL: As a DJ and electronic music producer, you also create soundtracks for advertising companies. How does your experience in that field influence your approach to producing your club-oriented music?
Danny Eviza: Working on soundtracks for advertising projects taught me the importance of deadlines and following defined guidelines. Companies often have a vague idea of what they want, and I have to guide them while drawing inspiration from the director’s vision. Producing club-oriented music allows me more freedom to experiment, although I still maintain a methodical approach. For instance, I always start with a drum loop and a bassline. “Lost” portrays a solitary man navigating a fast-paced, illuminated city at night, where nobody cares about him.
HMWL: “Lost” is set to be released online on June 2nd, 2023. How does it feel to share this collaborative project with the world, and what are your expectations for its reception?
Danny Eviza: I’m thrilled to share “Lost” with everyone, but I must admit I’m also a bit anxious. While numbers aren’t everything, they do play a part, and I hope the track receives a positive response. It would be amazing to hear it played in the darkest and most vibrant venues of the cities.
HMWL: In what ways does “Lost” showcase your growth and evolution as an artist? Are there any new elements or techniques you explored in this single that differentiate it from your previous works?
Danny Eviza: “Lost” marks a new adventure for me. I have spent years producing urban, hip-hop, and electronic music. However, I decided to take an alternative route and explore new territories. Although I’m still discovering my unique sound, I draw inspiration from various genres. The construction of the track typically starts with a drum loop and a bassline. From there, I let my imagination craft the rest. “Lost” represents a switch and my willingness to try new waves and synthesizers.
HMWL: Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Danny Eviza in terms of future releases or projects? Is there a particular direction or style you’re keen on exploring further?
Danny Eviza: I’m currently working on other songs, delving into EDM and tech house. I already have future releases planned, possibly with different nuances. I enjoy working with triplets, syncopated sounds, arpeggios, and minimalism. It will undoubtedly be a challenge for me, but my goal is to connect with listeners on a deeper level. The road ahead is long, and I may get lost along the way, but I will find my path by embracing the music I love to create. Stay tuned! D.
