Serge Devant Releases Hush Hush EP on Crosstown Rebels + Interview

US talent Serge Devant makes a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels in July with the three-track Hush Hush EP. Damian Lazarus’ flagship label is familiar territory for the NYC talent, where he’s made several acclaimed appearances since 2015. Serge spoke on how each track took shape: “This EP has been put together over the span of seven years, representing different times of my life and where I was musically. Flashback has been sitting on the back burner since 2015, Hush Hush is from the pandemic archives and Hot Circuit is the freshest out of the bunch. It feels like this release has a little something to please everyone. Enjoy!” Flashback feat. Forrest gets the show underway, as soft kicks live beside pulsing synth tones and Forrest’s echoing vocals throughout. There’s a soothing feel to the piece, making it well-built for both sunrise and sunset moments, whilst still retaining enough oomph to make it perfect dancefloor material. Hot Circuit comes next, taking the form of an out-and-out club-cut packed full of low-slung, Ibiza-ready groove, whilst Hush Hush continues in a similarly punchy vein to round off the EP on a techy note. Serge Devant has an esteemed reputation in today’s dance music industry, from playing at DC-10 to his music turning the heads of Jamie Jones and Damian Lazarus, his talent speaks for itself. Emerald City, Knee Deep In Sound and Circus Recordings are just a few of the labels he’s released on, whilst performances for international brands such as Day Zero, Music On, Get Lost and Paradise prove his standing as a globally-revered DJ and producer.

HMWL: Hey Serge, thank you for taking the time to speak to us and congratulations on the new EP on Crosstown Rebels. Where in the world are you today?
I am currently in Ibiza, getting ready to play Saturday night at HI with Damian Lazarus.

Can you tell us about this EP and when you made these tracks?
This EP has been put together over the span of seven years, representing different times of my life and where I was musically. Flashback has been sitting on the back burner since 2015, Hush Hush is from the pandemic archives and Hot Circuit is the freshest out of the bunch. It feels like this release has a little something to please everyone.

When did you decide to start producing music? Where did this interest come from?
It occurred naturally. About two decades ago I started collecting a bunch of vinyl and then eventually that led to DJing. After a few years, I started being more curious about what sound would represent the style of music I was playing at the time. That curiosity led me to explore further and then I got into the studio to start making records.

How is your touring experience at the moment? Do you have any advice for other DJs on tour?
It’s well-balanced. I’m enjoying the gigs and trying not to overwhelm myself at the moment. I’ve been focusing more time on the studio work and planning a solid string of releases for the future. As advice, I would probably say pace yourself. Don’t take every possible gig just for the sake of playing. Be selective and play parties you would really enjoy. Don’t overwhelm yourself and take on more than you can chew. Make sure to get rest and keep a balance.

When you’re not in the studio or touring, how do you like to unwind?
Nature, road trips, sports, silence

What are your go-to tracks as of late to get the dancefloor moving?
I have been testing many still unreleased  tracks that I have been working on, but since the last release it’s def “Hot Circuit“

Are there any shows that you are extra excited about this summer?
I’m really looking forward to Paradise at Amnesia. I have a few dates on the terrace. So you can imagine how excited I am for my debut on the terrace
