Exclusive Interview: Sean Doron

Riding a wave of success off the back of three critically acclaimed singles since launching back in April (Here To Stay EP, Starlight EP and Disconnect), burgeoning underground house imprint Scenarios now looks to continue its enviable run of first-rate studio output as it unveils its fourth official offering, with Looking In The Sky. Out now, Looking In The Sky marks the first single on the label to feature all five constituent members of the Scenarios collective – Emanuel Satie, Maga, Tim Engelhardt, Sean Doron and Yulia Niko – who team up with Berlin-based vocalist Paul Brenning for one of the biggest records on the label to date. We caught up with Sean Doron, one of the collective’s founders, to discuss dream gigs, early supporters, future plans and more.
Hi Sean. For those that don’t know your story, please can you tell us a little bit about your background, where you’re from and how you came to be a musician.
I have been playing in my hometown Tel Aviv, since I was about 16 years old. Electronic music was always in my life, as I was traveling a lot for music festivals around the world. Later on, I helped co-found the Monochrome events series in Israel and that was a huge success. I kept playing all around Israel and shortly after was invited by Guy Gerber to be a resident dj at his Rumors Ibiza party on the island. After this experience, I started to produce my own music and release it on few of my favorite labels such as: Rebellion of Damian Lazarus, Flying Circus of Audiofly and more… now I’m focusing on Scenarios.
Who have been your biggest supporters in your career so far?
‏My biggest supporters are the music lovers that support my music and frequently comes to my shows. They give me the power to keep doing it and of course my parents who always trusted me and supported me to do on what I love.
How would you describe your sound in 3 words?
Sexy, groovy, mysterious
What inspires you the most when making music? And how do you stay inspired?
Usually, I get inspired when I visit new places, meeting new people & cultures and discover new music. That experience in itself truly amazes me. With that said, I have to be always on the move to keep the inspiration alive.
What would you say has been your biggest career highlight to date?
Tricky question 🙂 I can think of a few highlights, but to choose one – Co Founding SCENARIOS the collective, record label and event series was a big step for me and I’m more then happy with the results so far.
What is the coolest venue you have ever played and why was it so special?
Honestly, playing Mayan Warrior Art car at Burning Man was the most special experience for me. It feels like riding a giant space ship in the desert. The experience of the BM spirit, the fundamental idea of sharing, the warm-heartedness, the beautiful encounters, the indescribable sunrises, the surreal mountains on the horizon – is unmistakeable like nothing else in this world.
We understand you have a new record coming out on Scenarios on November 25? Can you tell us more about that?
Yes, “Looking In The Sky” is our very first single all together as SCENARIOS.
The concept of ‘Looking In The Sky’ is in the designing of the track, since we all have collectively worked on this track at our studio in Lisbon. It has really beautiful vocals by the talented singer Paul Brenning. We have received really nice feedback from major artists that are already playing the track.
You set up Scenarios earlier this year. What’s the idea behind it?
Scenarios – collective, record label and event series by Emanuel Satie, Maga, Tim Engelhardt, Yulia Niko and myself. Together, we are united in our shared beliefs, dynamic and outlook. We represent a new generation of artists that functions as a whole while still maintaining our individuality. In this way, we can truly grow as one.
The collective creates and implements a unique genre of music and offers an unparalleled event experience that characterizes our novel approach to the world of music and events.
If you could put on your own show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you have join you on the lineup?
It will be in Ibiza, where the all team will play together as SCENARIOS and would be amazing to hosts our favorite artists every week with us.
Beyond the new single release on Scenarios, what is coming up next in the world of Sean Doron?
Much more music is coming your way soon and of course some fun shows in Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, Brazil, Spain, France, Israel, India and more TBA
Where is the best place to stay up to date with you?
