HMWL Podcast 120 – Heidi Nesset (Dj Mix)

unnamed

Mix number 120 is brought to us by the very very extraordinary Heidi Nesset. Half Cypriot, half Norwegian, but born and raised in Sweden, she’s a rising Dj-star with a whole lot of projects going on, wether it’s running interior blogs for real estate agencies, illustrating, doing some graphic design or making people dance while spinning records ranging from everything in between house and techno. Being so multi talented and all (read: busy) and on top of that just recently moving to Berlin to focus on DJ:ing, we were happy to hear that she wanted to do a mix for us. We asked her some questions which you’ll find below together with her fantastic mix. Enjoy!

Hi Heidi! Tell us a little bit about yourself! Who are you?
Hi! I’m Heidi Nesset, half Cypriot and half Norwegian, born and raised in Sweden and currently living in Berlin.

What do you do for a living?
I’m a freelancer so I do a little bit of everything, right now I run an interior blog for a Swedish real estate agency which is really fun! I also do some graphic design and illustration stuff a little now and then.

You recently moved to Berlin from Gothenburg. Was that to be able to dj more?
Yep, I moved here a little while ago! I really love Gothenburg which was my last home town, but it was time to do something else, and after my first visit to Berlin last year I felt like it was the place to be for me right now. I wanted to explore the electronic music scene as much as possible, check out all the amazing dj’s that this town hosts, the clubs and the sound systems and hopefully get more inspiration for my own future. It feels even more right for each day so far, so I’m very happy to be here!

What do you look for in a dj-set?
Hehe, I think that whats most important (and sorry for the cheezyness now), no matter what genre you’re playing, is that there’s soul and love for the music. When I create my own sets, I want the listener to join in and feel the ups and downs with a nice mix of variation where some tracks are more melodic, some are darker and some with just a really nice beat that boosts it all up even more. I love that!

If you could start a dj-duo with someone famous, who would it be?
Hmm, that’s really hard to answer. There’s sooo many more or less famous dj’s out there that I’d love to play with. But if I have to choose, I’d say Ellen Allien, Kevin Saunderson or Kink!

And you made a mix for us!! Would you like to tell us a little bit about the mix? What’s in it?
Yes, thanks so much for inviting me to make a mix for you! It’s a pretty much “feel good” mix with some of my absolute favourite producers, such as Alex Burkat, Beesmunt Soundsystem, Kink and a remix by Palms Trax to mention a few. There’s also this track “Our Luv” by Blake Baxter which I heard for the first time just some weeks ago and loved it so much. All in all, the mix is a bit different from my last mixtapes but I was just so much in a mood for this kind of musical trip when I recorded it, and here’s what came out of it!

What are your plans for the future? Any plans on producing your own music?
Yes, I’m hoping to start produce within the nearest future. I’m lucky to have quite a lot of great producing friends around me and it’s so inspiring to see them releasing their own tracks, just the feeling of doing that must be so amazing. I’m hoping to get there one day as well, fingers crossed!

Any last words? Do you happen to know a really talented DJ or producer we should listen to? Or maybe you wanna tip us about the best place to go clubbing in Berlin or grab a beer?
Palms Trax is probably my favourite producer right now. His sound is like heaven and I can’t stop listening! Also Anton Fitz, Stathis Lazaridez and Gerry Read. Since I’ve only been here a couple of months, I’m pretty sure that theres a lot more out there to check out, but my favourite club so far is probably Renate, I’ve spent hours after hours dancing with my feet glued to the floor in there. Lovely! My favourite beer place is a super cosy and quite quirky bar called Same Heads in Neukölln, luckily located just outside my door…. What a coincidence!
