Track 2 – Disconnected (Free download)
NIBC is the owner of the Trunkfunk label, a solid Swedish label that – for the most part at least – maintains a vehemently underground albeit quality agenda. The same can be said of the main man’s latest contribution to his label, as he summons up an excellent 3-track release in the shape of the Vega EP, which is as exceptionally produced as it is downright enjoyable.
Opening the EP is the cultured and refined leanings of ‘Vega’ itself. Spiky and full of enchanting, bulbous synths, it’s a neat myriad of sounds and styles that plays out with a hefty degree of panache. Stylistically speaking, ‘Disconnected’ isn’t a million miles away. This time about, it’s the flickering keys that elevate it to lofty standards, and the vocal is worth aying due attention to for that matter too. A camp anthem that’s sure to go down a real treat, for my money at least it’s the highlight of the release.
Culminating it all is the aptly titled ‘Flare’, which leads the listener down a rabbit hole that’s full of mystical, otherworldly sounds. Catchy and menacing, it forces parallels with the best work of labels such as Aus, Hotflush et al. And suffice to say, that’s definitely a good thing.
