Vinyl pick of the week: Pablo Bolivar – Last Change [Galaktika Rekords 2012]

Tracks:
A1 – Last Change,
A2 – Behind Me,
B1 – Last Change (Jay Shepard Remix),
B2 – Stand By

Pablo Bolivar left his own label Avant Roots, run together with Aphro Sainz, for this release on Galaktika from his hometown Barcelona, Spain. He has always gone his own way and every track produced has been made with great effort and love for the music, all ending up in unique and hypnotic sounds. The second track on each side is what a fan would immediately recognize as ”Bolivarism”.

Deep, minimalistic and slowly building tracks with layers of sounds forcing us all to go out and drive around a city late at night. Whilst these tracks works perfectly at 50 km per hour and yellow streetlights, the two first tracks on each side are aimed for the floor.

Pablo Bolivars ”Last Change” is a deep and rhythmic piece with a catchy kick and fast hitting hi-hats. Like a pie made out of fresh summer berries this one builds into a cut’n’paste bass and synth cord that even provides the smell of summer. This is truly a track that has all the elements of Pablo Bolivar, but with added dance floor flavour. If you ever wanted to roll on top of Mediterranean waves late in summer, then ”Last Change” will do it for you. As we flip and hit B1, we find the remix by Jay Shepard.

This one gives more bang for the bucks and put us in direct contact with the audience. Truly a great track for the club with it’s heavy weight tribal infection. It is faster has harder kicks and with a repeating male vocal on top giving it thumbs up for having all the ingredients of a true house cake with out losing it’s original identity. All in all, the ”Last Change EP” keeps the spirit of Pablo Bolivars unique layers of sounds and build ups and at the same time including two tracks that will put cream on the dance floor.

Points 8/10

Bonus: Original Unreleased version of Last Chance
