Here is a deep disco release to wait and die for. The Kama Sutra Lovers return to their GlamDisco imprint this September, with ‘Can’t Control’ featuring remixes from Patrice Bäumel, Carl Finlow, and Steve Ko & Luch Misterhands.
Siddhu and Diana Ayanna, better known as Kama Sutra Lovers, launched their GlamDisco imprint out of Paris, in February 2013, and although the label only reaches its third release here, it’s already garnering early support from the likes of Jori Hulkonnen, Horse Meat Disco, Droog and Danny Daze. The duo, and label’s roots are firmly planted in fashion iconography and the imprint delivers cutting edge, forward thinking, electronic music.
The original mix of title track ‘Can’t Control’ opens the single, a hypnotic, disco house tipped track, built around dubbed out chords, swirling atmospherics and bumpy low-slung drums, Diana’s sensual vocal’s then run alongside the aforementioned elements, adding charm and character to the record, while the hooky saw-wave bass chord instills a bit of grit. Amsterdam based, K7!, Get Physical, and Trouw artist, Patrice Bäumel steps up next to rework ‘Can’t Control’, as expected from a producer like Bäumel, the mix is an entirely fresh outlook on the original, extracting some snippets and reshaping things into a stripped, analogue vibe, with weighty 808 drums, profound amounts of sub-bass depth and some interesting modulation work on the vocal licks and synth stabs, resulting in an intriguing, understated remix.
Entering the latter half of the single, Carl Finlow offers up an interpretation of ‘Can’t Control’, taking on a more direct, straight 4/4 approach with his mix, opting for upfront drums and a simplistic bass hook as the driving force, while evolving chord sequences, drawn out bass tones, and psychedelic sweeps brilliantly meander around them. Then lastly to close things Steve Ko and Lucho Misterhands, deliver the third and final remix, giving things a darker more Techno centric edge this time, as the duo dub things out and infuse the record with a raw edge, as heavily reverberated perc hits, sweeping white noise and bubbling bass subtly bloom and retract throughout the tracks six minute duration, and eerie tones murmur away in the depths of the background, the end result being another great contribution to the package and rounding things off nicely.
