Press release:

Audiojack’s Gruuv label closes what’s been a stellar year for the imprint this November with ‘Trax That Make You Reminisce Vol.1’ by Germany’s Marc Romboy, backed with Phil Weeks and A1 Bassline reworks.

German Producer Marc Romboy’s status in electronic music hasn’t faltered throughout the millennium having consistently delivered intriguing records of the highest quality on labels such as Josh Wink’s Ovum, Will Saul’s Simple, and of course his own Systematic Recordings. Here Marc joins Gruuv and delivers more signature sounds he’s become known for over the years, slotting alongside newer forward thinking producers such as Copy Paste Soul, Hugo, Dale Howard and A1 Bassline.

The original mix of ‘Ghetto What?’ opens the single, and sees Romboy chop up an amalgamation of vocal samples to reconstruct them alongside bumpy off-kilter drums, a raw saw-wave bass hook and classic rave stabs. This creates an infectious groove with its focus tipped towards an old school production, yet embodied with a very current appeal. Following is ‘Set Me Free’ which sees Marc venture on a darker path with a gritty acidic bass hook, a looped vocal hook uttering the title and a swinging broken beat layered in the background. Smooth ethereal pads are then subtly eased in adding a warm musicality to the record, while swirling delays and expansive reverb tails build a profound hidden depth.

Phil Weeks steps up on remix duties next reworking ‘Ghetto’ What?’ the Parisian brings his signature 909 rhythm to the mix, while cleverly revamping the flow of the groove with sporadic sax hits, stabbing chords, and heavily processed vocals. As expected from Weeks it’s a pure dance floor focused reshape. Lastly to close the single A1 Bassline offers up his ‘Nostalgic Mix’ of ‘Set Me Free’ following his ‘Intasound’ single on the label. A1 put’s a modern spin on the retro-tinged composition throwing in a bass heavy, tom-driven bass line, sweeping reversed pads, dubbed out vocals and crunchy snares, again showcasing why he’s been one of the UK’s finest exports this year.

Marc Romboy’s ‘Trax That Make You Reminisce Vol.1’ is out on Gruuv 25th November 2013.
