Jamie Smith also known as Jamie xx is a music producer and remix artist from the UK with influences from acts like Burial and kode9. He is well known due to both his solo career and also for the UK based band “The xx”.

Jamies musical career started in 2005 when he joined The xx and in 2009 they released their debut album “XX” for which he first appeared as “Jamie xx” with a promotional mix released on the FACT mix series of the FACT magazine. The album later sold platinum in the UK. Afterward, Jamie Smith went on to do more remix work for artists like Florence + The Machine, Adele, Jack Peñate and Glasser.

In 2010 he released the full length album “We’re New Here” on the label Young Turks, XL with Gil-Scott Hernon which contained tracks like “New York Is Killing Me” and “I’ll Take Care Of U” which went viral on British radio stations all over the country received a lot of positive critic from the press. It was called “A masterpiece in its own right” by BBC’s Ele Beattie.

Later in 2011 he released his self-produced single “Far Nearer, Beat For” which was selected best new track by Pitchfork Media. That same year, Smith produced the title track on Drake’s second album, Take Care, which features pop singer Rihanna. Smith also did reworks for Radiohead’s song “Bloom” and co-produced the song “when It’s All Over” By Alicia Keys.

Jamie’s music is a perfect example of the “less is more” concept, a beautiful combination of simple bass lines and crisp down-to-earth percussions. He somehow manages to get a floating, yet steady feel to his tracks that can really take you on a musical journey. It’s a kind of beautiful simplicity that seems to only originate from the English underground scene. I would recommend everyone to come down to Culture Box this Saturday; this is something you simply can’t miss!
