Press Realease:
This November will see the release of Alexi Delano & Butane’s ‘What You See Is All There Is’ EP on Alphahouse, comprising three original cuts from the duo.
Alphahouse was launched by Butane out of Missouri, US in 2005, and since its inception has released material from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Quenum, Ryan Crosson, Kris Wadsworth and Ion Ludwig, a telling sign of the quality embodied in the imprint. Here label-head Butane teams up with Chilean, Alexi Delano for a collaborative single, the duo share a devotion to pure artistry that few in this industry are able to claim. Both, over the breadth of expansive careers, have consistently chosen to forgo more commercial paths for wholesome, timeless, underground projects . After a chance meeting at an impromptu after-hours in Brooklyn where they rocked a packed warehouse together well into Sunday evening, the two decided to combine their talents in the recording studio, where they found an undeniable synergy.
Title track ‘What You See Is All There Is’ kicks off the EP, a dark, dubbed-out number built around ethereal atmospherics, low-slung bumpy drums, and bubbling percussion. The record slowly blooms with subtle additional elements worked into the record sporadically, creating a blossoming dynamism and ever-evolving feel, while sweeping sub bass adds a further weight and drive to the feel of things.
Following is ‘Ego Depletion’, embracing a similar aesthetic to the preceding cut with a raw, stripped back vibe; the duo lay down punchy drums as the sturdy foundations. While the focal point of the record sees reverberated toms thrown into the mix alongside sweeping white noise and eerie low-end tones to create a gritty drum-driven workout. Then last up to close the release is ‘Mind Mapping’, closing the release in style as the pair drop the tempo slightly and blend an amalgamation of vocal snippets to create a profound background depth. While straight 4/4 drums, an infectious hooky bass line and intricate processing add charm and character to the composition.
As expected from a label like Alphahouse, this is a classy, understated record and another stellar additional to the catalogue. Alexi Delano & Butane’s ‘What You See Is All There Is’ is out on Alphahouse 18th November 2013.
