Spacedust – Gym And Tonic

Classic French house sound… with a bootleg twist!
A long time ago, Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) wrote “Gym Tonic,” using an uncleared sample from a Jane Fonda workout video. Bangalter gave Bob Sinclar a sample of his work, which was then released as “Gym Tonic (Thomas Bangalter Mix),” crediting the song to Bob Sinclar. Supposedly, Bangalter was upset by this and no longer speaks to Sinclar because of the sample issue. Jane Fonda sued and got some money… but that’s not the end of the story. A completely illegitimate version of the song was re-released in 1998 with the author credited as “Spacedust.”

If you ask me, the name “Spacedust” is a play on “Stardust,” the group which wrote “Music Sounds Better With You” (group members were Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe, and Benjamin Diamond). In any event, the “Spacedust” version of this song is a lot of fun! I ordered the bootleg vinyl a few years ago and finally got around to mastering it to mp3. Enjoy!
