Patrick Zigon – Nevesta

Tomorrow, the Berlin based Patrick Zigon [Highgrade, Galaktika, etc] will be releasing his first studio album – The Alpha State. According to Patrick himself – THE ALPHA STATE is a mental state of total relaxation reached short before and after sleep and when daydreaming, but it can also be entered at will, for example via hypnotizing music.

The album is certainly one dubby, tripped out space odyssey. An experimental techno exploration. A deep dive into many influential genres (Dub, reggae, ambient chill out, etc) that formed the house and techno scene over the last 2 decades.

Even though it’s a bit over-experimental for my taste, it’s extremely well produced and doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard before.

From the dub techno sound of Märchenland.  To the tribal sound of Nevesta, that leads my thoughts back to the Gorge’s Keya, yet in a jazzy, served-on-ice form. To the deep wobbling base of Stranger’s paradise. To hypnotic, Silicone Soul like sound of Kimatta. To the funky drums of Use it or Loose it. To the last track with the same name as the album – a beautiful lo-fi new age chill out tune.

This album got something for everybody except for techno dub, no doubt.

The Alpha State is out tomorrow on Danza Macabra Records.
