Berlin-based If The Kids Records kick-start the Itaka sublabel. First out is PURGE – with Sandstorm EP a oriental-influenced curry-mix of melodies, bass and house beats. One of the mixes is delivered by Anne Haack – the label boss herself.
PURGE is a long time trouble kid of London´s underground, a regular at Fabric and every Sunday on Marcus Nasty´s NastyFM, playing garage, house, uk funky and all sorts of bass styles, with heaps of technique and a spot-on dancefloor oriented selection of tunes. Dishing out new mixes every month like no other! Having opened for Kryptic Minds, A1 Bassline, Toddla T, Koan Sound and more, he´s making his rounds in 2013 across Europe, including Snowbombing Festival in Austria.
Sandstorm is his first release, in which he particularily worked with Middle Eastern samples and a mix of bass, garage and house influences to create his own distinctive “Sandstorm” sound, which sets him apart from the regular house, garage or bass producer. The track then got remixed by outstanding underground talent from across the globe, such as beatmaker and label owner Able8 from Australia, long time techno head Hartojo from Berlin/Japan and global bass schooled but house/techno loving Anne Haack.
ITAKA is a new sub-label of the experimental bass label IF THE KIDS Records from Berlin, to open up a new space for house and techno gems, Berlin is well-known for. However, don´t expect the typical repetitive 4/4 on the floor, influences will be as varied as in ITK itself.
