Underworld – Caliban’s Dream [Olympics 2012 Opening Ceremony theme]

The music theme for this years Olympics ceremony was directed by the British electronica pioneers Underworld. During the lighting of the Olympic fire – the track played was Caliban’s Dream by Underworld themselves featuring vocals by feat. Dockhead Choir, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Only Men Aloud, Elizabeth Roberts, Esme Smith and Alex Trimble.

It took (too) many years for British electronica to get out of it’s underground dwelling and through all the prejudices and politics including warehouse parties, repetitive beat acts and police shut down. Letting the old-school ravers Underworld to work the Olympics theme is definitely a milestone in British music politics.
